This week, I crossed an incredible milestone: my net worth pushed past £500,000. Half a million. Even just writing those words feels surreal not because this happened by chance, but because it’s the result of years of careful choices, steady investing, and a relentless drive for financial independence.
Starting Net Worth (October 2024): £421,655
Ending Net Worth (September 2025): £510,518
Total Net Worth Growth: £88,863 (+21.08%)
If you’ve been following my journey, you’ll know I’ve never been in it just for the money. My goal is freedom — freedom to shape my days, choose where I live, work on things I care about, and say “yes” to what matters. Hitting £500k is a marker along this road, not the destination. It’s a powerful moment for reflection, especially when you consider how unpredictable the past year has felt — with economic headwinds, yet markets defying the gloom.

Notable Highs & Lows
- Biggest Monthly Gain:
£66,372 in May 2025 (+18.09%) a sharp rebound after a dramatic market correction. - Worst Month:
April 2025: Net worth fell by £-112,369 (-23.04%), highlighting the volatility that can come with tech-heavy allocations. - Steadiest Climb:
July-September 2025, three consecutive positive months capped off with a four-figure rise in September.
Why Are Markets Rising When the Economy Isn’t?
If your gut tells you something feels off when you read headlines about inflation, sluggish job growth, and global tensions, but still see your investment portfolio climbing, you’re not alone. So, what’s pushing markets higher?
1. Forward-Looking Markets
- The market isn’t reacting to today; it’s pricing in tomorrow’s hopes. With the expectation of interest rate cuts on the horizon and corporate profits holding up better than feared, investors are betting on a gentle economic landing and renewed growth.
2. Technology’s Second Wind
- Tech and AI are regaining centre stage, powering optimism. Companies are outmanoeuvring inflation and tariffs, and many are seeing overseas earnings boosted by a weaker pound. For anyone with a tech-heavy portfolio, it’s been a strong year.
3. Policy Tailwinds
- In the US, fresh stimulus and deregulation are stoking the fire. Even for UK investors, the ripple effect is real — bullish sentiment in the US tends to uplift global indices too.
4. Rate Cut Expectations
- Anticipated cuts to interest rates mean cheaper borrowing and more buoyant valuations. That prospect alone has been enough to keep equity prices elevated throughout 2025.
What Does This Mean for FIRE Investors?
For those of us focused on FIRE, today’s market brings a mix of opportunity and warning signs:
Opportunity:
- Strong markets give FIRE portfolios a welcome boost. If you’re diversified globally, odds are you’ve enjoyed solid returns this year.
Caution:
- Don’t be lulled by momentum. Booming markets aren’t the same as a booming economy. As you move closer to drawdown, the old rules still apply: diversify, optimise for tax, and plan your withdrawals with care.
Compare to S&P-500
Here’s a side-by-side line chart comparing my Tech-Heavy Portfolio net worth with a S&P 500 tracker investment for each month from October 2024 to September 2025:

Comparison of Tech-Heavy Portfolio vs. S&P 500 Net Worth (Oct 2024 – Sep 2025)
- The chart visually shows how each portfolio performed through the year, including major swings and overall growth.
- You can clearly see the April dip in your tech-heavy allocation versus the steadier climb of the S&P 500.
I would have been slighty better in the S&P500 fund than Tech shares.
Looking Forward
With the £500k milestone behind me, my sights are now set on new projects:
- Creating interactive blog tools (like a pension withdrawal simulator)
- Diving into lifestyle content, yes, expect some motorbike stories soon
- Think about De-risking the porfolio
- Continuing honest, detailed updates as I move closer to Coast FIRE
Final Thoughts
Moments like this remind me why I started documenting my journey to record the reality, share lessons learned, and connect with others designing their own paths. If you’re just starting out, know that every small decision adds up. Every pound you save, every investment you make, and every shift in perspective counts.
Here’s to the next milestone and the freedom it brings!
