Hobbies and Arts

I’m thrilled to share my newfound passion for Great Artists, and it’s such an exciting journey. It all kicked off when I stumbled upon Vincent van Gogh’s iconic “The Starry Night” on Facebook Marketplace. I used to think of him as just the mad painter who cut off his ear, but wow, was I mistaken

In his short 37 years, van Gogh really transformed the art world. He only found his calling in his late 20s after facing setbacks as an art dealer and preacher. Despite not gaining the respect of his peers during his lifetime, his brother Theo stood by him, supporting his incredible talent. Some of his greatest masterpieces were even created during his time in an asylum in France.

He sold only one painting in his lifetime, and was on the verge of being recognised, but due to his returning mental illness, he shot himself. It would seem Artists become more valuable once they are dead so am keen to find out why and what other great Artists I have missed out on.

I would love to see one of his pieces one day in the meantime I will have to settle for the Vince Van Gogh documentary “Painted with Word” with Benedict Cumberbatch.

Why Hobbies

As I approach retirement, I’m eager to fill my time with activities that truly inspire me. In my younger years, I enjoyed fishing and even joined an American car club for a while, but those interests have shifted. Now, I find myself dreaming of travel, but with a twist. Instead of the adventure holidays at theme parks and water parks that were perfect for the kids, I’m craving the luxurious relaxation of spa retreats.

I’m particularly excited about my upcoming trip to Liverpool’s Walker Art Gallery. I can’t wait to dive deep into the world of art and soak up some culture. Later this year, I’m planning to visit even bigger galleries, combining my love for travel with the appreciation of incredible artworks.

On top of that, I’m trying my hand at drawing. I’ve picked up a few beginner sketching books, and while I’m not a pro just yet, I’m enjoying the process of learning and expressing myself creatively. It’s all about the journey, right?
